CHALLENGE
MISO, a new tool in the crypto realm, is a suite of open-source smart contracts created to ease the process of launching a new project on the SushiSwap exchange (sushi.com). Sushi.com provides a platform to maximize the value of your cryptocurrencies through decentralised finance tools such as yield farming, token staking, margin trading via Kashi and BentoBox and, now, token minting and discovery through MISO. MISO is a place for token creators and communities to launch new project tokens. MISO creates a collection of out-of-the-box smart contracts for non-technical founders to choose over more traditional and code-oriented methods of token launching.
I personally concepted, designed and illustrated all of the branding, graphics and visual assets of the Miso identity you see here. I provided the graphics and storyboards to animator Shane Croke (@shanecroke1992) to work his magic on the animations. I also worked with a team of blockchain builders, crypto experts and front-end web developers run by Adrian Guerrera and organised by Gen Morales to bring together punchy and memorable graphics with a user-friendly website which also served its purpose in bringing decentralised finance tools to the masses. The challenge in this project was creating a unique identity which both contrasted and complimented the SushiSwap aesthetic. A bowl of ‘Miso’ before the ‘Sushi’. The identity features a minimal word-mark with an ‘M’ icon resembling a noodle and an accompanied loud, textured gradient. The gradient is then used to create a number of Miso related illustrations and the noodle is the style basis for a series of icons which represent different features of the offering. Overall the branding combines a fresh take on the currently popular colour gradient with Japanese culinary motifs, wide and bold typography and animated graphics which doesn’t take itself too seriously.
